Uniting the Community with Malta AI & Blockchain Summit
A staple in the blockchain and tech community, the Malta AI & Blockchain Summit is a vibrant two-day conference which gathers key actors of the blockchain and AI industries, from all over the world to share, debate and present the latest advancements in their respective fields. In a span of two days, tech enthusiasts, entrepreneurs, developers, and programmers gather in a single place to exchange ideas, showcase their latest projects, meet industry leaders and immerse themselves in an environment which encourages everyone to network and build connections.
The first edition of the Malta AI & Blockchain Summit took place in 2018 and established Malta as The Blockchain Island and determined the government of the country to focus on the creation of a national legal framework for Artificial Intelligence. Last year’s edition was attended by over 8.500 attendees, including prominent figures like the father of blockchain, Scott Stornetta, Sophia, the world’s first robot citizen, the Winklevoss twins, Malta’s Prime Minister the Hon. Joseph Muscat, Abu Dhabi’s Royal Highness, and the legendary John McAfee.
Although the first edition of the Malta AI & Blockchain Summit set the expectations pretty high, this year’s edition increased both in size and scope and managed to perfectly illustrate the hypervelocity of advances and immense opportunities that the sector has seen over recent months. A new addition to the conference was the introduction of the Blockchain Battle, a pitch competition where promising crypto and blockchain projects showcase their projects in front of hundreds of investors, experts, and tech influencers live on stage. Moreover, the conference’s agenda included expert keynotes from tech influencers, interactive discussion and practical applications of today’s and tomorrow’s technologies.
Modex at Malta AI & Blockchain Summit
Modex was represented at Malta AI & Blockchain Summit by Alin Iftemi, CTO and Head of Modex, accompanied by several key members of the team. During the event, Modex team was present with an exhibition stand where they discussed our efforts to develop and promote widespread adoption of blockchain. The main focus was put on our latest project, Modex Blockchain as Database (BCDB), an innovative solution which enables companies to make the transition to blockchain in a matter of days.
Alin Iftemi entered the Blockchain Battle, a competition where each contestant had three minutes to pitch their project in front of a panel of savvy investors and a three minute Q&A session about the inner workings of their project. Although we didn’t win the competition, Alin underlined the fact that “we managed to achieve our goal in the sense that we measured people’s interest towards our project, and I can confidently say that people were very receptive. These types of events offer a great opportunity to look at what people are using blockchain for. What I saw was an abundance of cryptocurrency related use cases. We were the only company that came with a blockchain solution which streamlines the adoption process of the technology in the enterprise sphere.”
Modex exhibition stand has seen a constant flow of people interested learn more about Modex BCDB and its impact on the enterprise sphere. Malta is one of the few places in the world which has a solid blockchain culture. As a result, people already knew what blockchain is, how it works and what it can do, so their main focus was on more technical aspects of our product such as performance, scalability, how to implement our project in their existing frameworks as well as the time frame required.
In charge of the Modex exhibition stand was Dan Popescu, Software Lead, who states that “People manifested a real interest towards our project. We made a comparison with other projects that were there, and realized that we were the only ones who came with a solution which uses blockchain technology, not for crypto, tokenization, ICO or STO. A genuine use case for the technology outside the ‘classic blockchain’, cryptocurrency”.

We radically simplify blockchain deployment so businesses can balance security and innovation. Modex was designed from the ground up as an on-demand enterprise blockchain infrastructure. Our platform is built for businesses frustrated with expensive consulting contracts and prolonged development timelines. Now you can secure and share your data without handing it over. With Modex, blockchain is a simple utility you use when and where you need it.
